Solo RPG

All about my creative solo roleplaying!

I love solo roleplaying and here I explain how I do it and how it differs from just writing a book, journaling or other similar things… AND how it differs from playing in a group setting!

How does solo roleplaying differs from just regular book writing or similar activities? And how is it without a group?

For me, this is interesting because I do intertwine book writing with solo roleplaying sometimes (I call it “gamified writing”), since I’m an author. But within itself, solo roleplaying is not the same thing as just writing a book or having imaginative thoughts in your head…

It’s a concept were you’re roleplaying, which means having someone else’s persona and the gameplay have different components that not – as for instance – book writing has. You as the character often letting an oracle system* like dice control many of the outcomes. You have a character profile that you created before playing that dictates the gameplay. You often have maps and figures moving across it just as in a board game. It’s just the same concept as playing a traditional table-top roleplaying game with friends, but instead of with others you play alone.

I like being both the GM* and the player so I usually create the worlds and everything myself. So I go into two different roles when playing. The GM who sets up everything and do the creative process of world building and the player who’s experiencing the world….

Down below are some solo TTRPG* related photos…

*GM = Game Master a.k.a the person who runs the game in group settings. In Dungeons & Dragons it’s called DM or Dungeon Master though.

*TTRPG = Table-top roleplaying game (like the most famous Dungeons & Dragons).

*Oracle system = a randomized system used in ttrpg:s often dice but it can also be poker cards or the system can be created digitally etc.
